It seems that “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” may be in a lot of hot water. Apparently during the show segment where Ellen dances to all of the music that is played by her DJ, the show has never paid royalties to any of the companies who own the songs. A lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Nashville saying that the show owes royalties for hundreds of songs used over the years. The show has been on for how many years and they’re just noticing now?? Seriously.

The show has released a statement on DeGeneres’ behalf:

“This matter does not involve our host, Ellen DeGeneres , who as everyone knows is a huge music enthusiast and advocate, and had no knowledge of issues regarding the use of music in the show.”

The record companies involved include Arista, Atlantic, Capitol Records, Motown, Sony Music Entertainment, Virgin Records and Warner Bros. Records, but haven’t included a dollar amount in the lawsuit.

Is this story true or not?

VERDICT: Epic – totally true!
