Semi Precious Weapons is an up and coming band that is our first in a new weekly series we’re calling “New Music”. They are based out of New York City and I recently had the fabulous opportunity to speak with their singer, Justin “Precious” Tranter.
EpicBull: I’m actually personally a big fan of “We Love You”, your debut release. Any plans to get back into the studio for your sophomore CD in the near future?
Justin Tranter: Our plans are to make “We Love You” vanish. We are going to re-do our debut release on a grand fucking scale.
EB: I was originally introduced to the band from the Perez Hilton blog who has called you guys “The Next Big Thing”, how did he hear about you guys?
JT: We sent him 20 emails until he opened one. He watched a video and fell in love.
EB: How would you describe your sound? What/who are your influences?
JT: RockNRoll. Each other, ourselves, Beyonce and Jay Z.
EB: Tony Visconti produced your debut album, he has worked with legendary glam acts like Bowie, Thin Lizzy, T. Rex, and Adam Ant. How did you guys get hooked up with him? What was it like working with such a legendary producer?
JT: BP Fallon brought him to a show, and Tony said he has been waiting for our band for 20 years. Working with him and his right hand man Mario McNulty was wiki totes perf.
EB: You personally have a jewelry line called “Fetty” that you have come out with. Tell us a little about that.
JT: It started as band merch, and took on a beautiful 14K life of its own. Barneys, Barneys COOP, Vogue, fans, magic.
EB: Tell our readers what they would expect to see at a SPW live show.
JT: Borderline pregnancy, sweat, blood, rug burn, hooks, guitar solos, and forced booze patrol, possible fashion, and teenage glamour.
EB: Are you on tour right now and where can our readers go to find a tour schedule?
JT: We just got back from a Viper Room romp in sunny California. We will be touring the whole world as of mid-September. Our MySpace page has all info. http://www.myspace.com/semipreciousweapons
EB: Thank you for your time, Justin. You do indeed probably look better than I in a party dress. ;)
JT: Thank you gorgeous. When we meet in real life we can have a party-dress-off.
