Stephen Fowler and his wife Renee Stephens appeared on ABC’s reality show “Wife Swap”. And his verbally abusive behavior of another contestant, namely Gayla Long, the wife he swapped for, has caused him much notoriety. Not only have there been websites dedicated to trashing him publicly, but it has been reported that Fowler actually received death threats from treating Gayla Long so badly.
Fowler was mostly condescending to Long, who is from a small town in Missouri telling her: “Your two languages seem to be bad English and redneck.” Also Fowler announced that he “..probably earns more in one week” than Long “earns in a year”. Basically his snobbery has earned him a place in TV history as the worst husband on reality television. However, I don’t really see the big deal here. Yes, his comments were uncalled for an rude and I don’t condone Fowler’s behavior, but to really receive death threats and such uproar over this? Quite frankly, I have seen more abusive contestants on “Rock Of Love”, “Surreal Life” and other train wrecks of the sort. I think Fowler’s behavior was great television and I enjoyed watching his verbal tongue lashings, I’m not gonna lie!
